A Simulation-Based Shared Decision-Making Training Course for AI-Assisted Clinical Encounters of Medical Graduates: A Mixed Method Study

Artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications have rapidly expanded in medicine. AI-based diagnostic tools have been adopted in clinical practice, even in primary care. Effective communication and shared decision-making (SDM) with patients based on AI-assisted information have been emphasized. However, a training program for SDM using AI-assisted information has been rarely implemented in the UME curriculum or early stage of the GME program.

In this presentation, Dr. Kim will share a recent ongoing research project funded by National Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMK) to evaluate the feasibility and utility of a pilot simulation-based SDM course for AI-assisted clinical encounters for medical school graduands and explore the students’ perception and educational needs for SDM training for AI-assisted clinical encounters.
