AI & the Ethical Educator: Balancing Innovation and Integrity in Health Professions Education
Dr. Erin Aspenlieder (MacPherson Institute), Rebecca Taylor (MacPherson Institute), Kimberly Mason (Academic Integrity Office)
This presentation will include an overview of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT), with a specific focus on applications in health professions education. In addition, issues and questions of academic integrity in relation to generative AI will be discussed. The presentation will include opportunity for discussion and questions.
Dr. Erin Aspenlieder is an Associate Director with the Paul R. MacPherson Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning at McMaster University. She is coordinator for the Task Force on Generative AI in Teaching and Learning and led the development of McMaster’s Provisional Guidelines on the Use of Generative AI in Teaching and Learning.
For the past ten years Kimberly Mason has been the Academic Integrity Officer at McMaster University. She oversees the Academic Integrity Policy, is the intake Officer for the Research Integrity Policy and provides support to educators and students to help mitigate integrity concerns.
Rebecca Taylor is an Educational Developer with the Paul R. MacPherson Institute for Leadership, Innovation, and Excellence in Teaching. She has over 10 years of experience in delivering diverse teaching and learning supports for faculty, instructors, staff, and graduate students.
