Assistant professor of medicine Dr. Teresa Chan has won the 2017 Young Educators Award from the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC).
Chan completed McMaster’s postgraduate emergency medicine program in 2013 and works as an emergency physician for Hamilton Health Sciences. Since 2014, she has been the director of continuing professional development for the Division of Emergency Medicine. She is also the director of assessment for McMaster’s emergency medicine residency, and the communications director of the Canadian Association of Medical Educators.
Her several innovative projects include CanadiEM.org , an online, open access medical education platform that connects emergency providers nationally.
The AFMC Young Educators Award recognizes individuals within their first seven years as a faculty member who have produced change within their university or within the medical community as a whole through their vision, work, and interaction with colleagues.
The AFMC citation says: “Teresa’s education interests are broad and far reaching: She is an academic innovator, an avid medical education researcher, and an active teacher/mentor.”
